Wer die herrlichen Strände von anderen Malediven-Inseln kennt, wird anfangs von Gan etwas enttäuscht sein, denn der hoteleigene Strand ist nur bei Ebbe benutzbar, denn bei Flut reicht die Brandung bis an die Mauer. Wesentlich schöner ist der etwa 1 km lange Strand, der etwa 100 Meter östlich vom Jetty beginnt. Viele nützen auch den großen Swimmingpool in der linken Hälfte des Resorts. Wer etwas an der Pool-Bar trinken möchte, muss auch in den Pool, denn der kleine Steg über den Pool ist nur für den Barkeeper. Seit 2007 ist Gan ein Geheimtipp für Surfer!

Die Hotelanlage Equator Village ist eigentlich gänzlich atypisch für die Malediven, denn das Resort selbst beansprucht nur einen kleinen Teil im Nordwesten der etwa 5 mal 3 Kilometer großen, von Maledivern bewohnten Insel Gan. Der Eingang der Hotelanlage ist bewacht und nachts wird sogar die Straße neben dem Resort komplett abgesperrt. Über eine asphaltierte und bei Sonnenschein brennend heiße Zufahrt erreicht man die Rezeption und links daneben die öffentliche Telefonzelle und rechts dahinter den Fahrradverleih. Telefonwertkarten sind bei der Rezeption um 4 und 8 US$ erhältlich. 1 Minute kostet nachts 1,18 US$, tagsüber etwa das Doppelte. Eine MInute miteinem Mobiltelefon kostet 5,7 US$ !
Links von der Rezeption befinden sich die Informationen der Reiseveranstalter, rechts die Kassa und der Safe. Ebenfalls rechts von der Rezeption befindet sich die Tafel, wo man sich für die Schnorchelausflüge eintragen muss! Wenn man durch die Rezeption geht, kommt man zur Lobby, wo man von 16 bis 18 Uhr Kaffee trinken und Kuchen essen und Nachrichten im TV sehen kann. Links von der Lobby liegt der große Speisesaal und rechts die Bar, wo bei AI allerdings nur ein einfacher 'Cocktail of the Day' gratis ist.

Die Reihenbungalows sind in Gruppen zu 4, 5, oder 6 Woheinheiten quer zum Strand gebaut. Die Pflanzen sind exotisch, die Wege bestehen aus Betonplatten, auf denen man nur mit Sandalen gehen kann! Die Zimmer sind geräumig, aber sehr einfach eingerichtet. Es gibt 1 Tisch, 2 Sessel, 1 fahrbares Doppelbett, 2 Nachtkästchen, einen Schreibschrank, eine Bank und einen Kasten ohne Fächer, einen Ventilator und eine Klimaanlage. Das geschlossene Badezimmer ist mit WC, Dusche und elektrischem Durchlauferhitzer ausgestattet. Die Handtücher werden täglich gewechselt, die Strandtücher nur bei Bedarf. Das Leitungswasser darf nicht getrunken werden!

Die Diverland Tauchbasis bietet Tauchgänge im gesamten Addu Atoll an. und da El Ninjo 1998 im Addu Atoll keine Schäden verursacht hatte, wartet eine traumhafte Korallenvielfalt auf die Taucher und Schnorchler. Zuvor hatte 2005 Axel Horn den ehemaligen Basisleiter Jürgen Rudorf abgelöst.
